Eden Roc at Cap Cana

Escape the frantic pace of the everyday and find peace at Eden Roc at Cap Cana. An ultra luxurious resort in the Dominican Republic, this place promises guests complete privacy. Eden Roc at Cap Cana, located in the Dominican Republic’s most elegant beachfront community, is a Caribbean hideaway inspired by the glamorous resorts of the French and Italian Rivieras. Eden Roc is a beautiful all-suite boutique in the gated community of Cap Cana, home to tennis courts, a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, a marina, a beach club, and numerous vacation villas and second homes. Unlike the party-centric Punta Cana, Cap Cana attracts a more reserved crowd of couples and families. The sprawling property is best explored via golf cart, and all guests receive one with their suite.

The central area of the resort is about a five-minute ride from the beach and consists of 34 free-standing suites surrounded by your own “Garden of Eden,” full of fragrant tropical flowers that will send your senses waves of pleasure. Each suite has its own swimming pool and spa area. Relaxation here is limitless, and the resort will provide you with a myriad of entertainment options for your entertainment pleasure. From golf and snorkeling to gourmet dining and unique spa therapies, Eden Roc at Cap Cana is all encompassing and incredibly indulgent.

This small resort in the massive Cap Cana complex has a tranquil vibe. You won’t find the rowdy partiers or families with unruly children here; instead, mostly couples stay at this luxe — and extremely expensive — resort, and though it is peaceful, some may find the quiet atmosphere almost too quiet. But it certainly provides for a relaxing vacation and families that do visit the resort can take advantage of the kid’s club. Casa de Campo in La Romana, about 40 minutes from Eden Roc, might not have quite as luxurious rooms (although they’re close), but the hotel offers a few more on-site features (such as a shooting range) and has a slightly livelier, more laid-back feel.

The rooms at Eden Roc are absolutely gorgeous. Each of the 34 suites — designed to reflect the brightly colored buildings of Dominican villages — stands alone and features its own small pool and patio area. The majority of the suites feature bedrooms with attached, open living rooms and spacious bathrooms, but one-, two-, three-, and even a four-bedroom villa suites are also available. Room decor has an elegant, Mediterranean vibe. White walls, high, wood-beamed ceilings, and pretty tiling give rooms an open, airy feel, and pops of color keep decor from appearing too stark. All rooms have spacious bathrooms with deep Jacuzzi tubs, rainfall showers, and wood-paneled walk-in closets. Wi-Fi is free, and in-room iPads control the lighting, sound system, and large flat-screen TVs. The TVs have an extensive range of channels in English and Spanish.

Highlights:

  • All suites feature patios with small pools.
  • Bathrooms have separate rainfall showers and Jacuzzi tubs.

  • Beach is small but beautiful, with pristine waters and uncrowded sands

The beach at the Eden Roc is located at the Caleton Beach Club and is absolutely beautiful. It’s a small stretch of sand, buffered on both sides by land to create a cove-like feel, and it’s absolutely pristine. Unlike at many beaches in Punta Cana, seaweed debris is not a problem and the crystal-clear waters are great for swimming. There are numerous lounge chairs and several cabanas available for guests, and beachside drink service is also available. If you get hungry, La Palapa is footsteps away and overlooks the ocean.

Pool
Gorgeous lagoon-style pools wind through the resort. In addition to the rooms’ private pools, guests can take a dip in a free-form, lagoon-style pool that winds itself through the grounds. Its lush surroundings make for a charming spot to swim or sunbathe.

Spa
Solaya Spa is as expansive as it is luxurious. The luxe Solaya Spa intensifies the property’s serene vibe. Guests are welcomed with a signature drink before being shown to the elegant locker rooms where a plush robe, rainfall showers, sauna, and hamman awaits them. The spa also has its own lagoon-style pool, surrounded by lush tropical plants and whirlpools. Guests can choose from a wide variety of treatments to be done in their private cabanas, or take advantage of the resorts full-service salon.

Family
Though the resort has a romantic, upscale vibe, it does keep families in mind with a kids’ club and kids’ menus at the gourmet restaurants.
Eden Roc exudes a romantic vibe, with upscale (and expensive) restaurants, a sleek pool, and a focus on peace and tranquility. However, families are certainly welcome at the hotel. The on-site kids’ club is large for a boutique hotel and features games, toys (such as remote-controlled boats that can be taken out on the man-made lagoon), a mini-spa, a teen area with Wii, a small outdoor playground, and even two resident birds. La Palapa restaurant includes a kids’ menu, and kid-friendly options are available for room service.
Three family-style suites are also available with children’s rooms with bunk beds.

Food
La Palapa by Eden Roc, located at the Caleton Beach Club, is a delicious gourmet restaurant with a focus on fresh seafood. Just about everything is expensive – even for lunch, a club sandwich will set you back nearly $20 – but plates are delicious and beautifully presented.
The resort features three more restaurants – one Mediterranean, one casual poolside option, and one intimate spot with just a few tables – in the main area, as well.
Free breakfast is included in the room rate and, for now, is served at La Palapa. Guests can opt to have it delivered to their rooms for an additional fee.

Golf
The Cap Cana resort community features a beautiful Jack Nicklaus-designed course which is open to hotel guests. Nestled between natural grottos and the ocean, the 18-hole course includes challenging holes such as over-the-water shots and tricky greens. The photo opps alone make it worthwhile to experience.
